Monday local market

Every Monday morning until around lunchtime, Scalea hosts two different markets.

The first one is just a short walk from the apartment. You'll find all kinds of clothing, bags, household items, and also a few tasty treats to try from local cheesemakers and street food stalls.

The second market is a little farther away, closer to the town centre, and is well worth the walk. Alongside classic fruit and everyday vegetables, you'll also discover plenty of local specialties — zucchini flowers, many varieties of aubergines, salads in all shapes and flavours, as well as the famous red onions from Tropea, sun-dried tomatoes, olives, nuts, spices, and much more.

The nearby market is located at Via Plinio Il Vecchio, 12. The easiest way to get there is to walk along the main road in front of the house and turn right. Continue to the larger crossroads behind Hotel Parco Dei Principi, cross the street at the pedestrian crossing, and you'll see the market just behind the fence in front of you. There is also another entrance opposite Interspar.

The food market, Mercato Alimentari del Lunedi, is located at Via Fiume Lao, 18–22. It's around a 20-minute walk, although you can also drive there. On market days, people tend to park wherever they can, so walking can actually be the more pleasant option. Along the way, you can also stop for a great coffee — there are several nice places on the route.
